Congratulations on passing your exams!

SYRG would like to congratulate M6CBD, M6LUE & M6BFC on passing their Foundation Licence exams.

With a little hard work and determination you have all done very well and made us all proud of your efforts. Now you have your tickets, we are sure that you will use them wisely to learn more about the great hobby of radio and make many new friends. Well done.

These three successful candidates are just a few that passed the Autumn foundation course provided by SYRG at the Dearne Renaissance Centre in Bolton-upon-Dearne. It is expected that other foundation courses will take place next year in 2010.

SYRG Robot

Here’s some test footage from the video camera of our robot which will shortly reside at the GB7YD site.

He’s been kindly donated to the group by Host Yorkshire Internet and can be controlled by the group via the WIFI access point on the farm through the internet.

The robot is still in testing stage by members of the group and will be available for control by visitors to this web site shortly.

Ham radio and D-Star to get boost from TV sitcom

The ABC Television series, “Last Man Standing” is about Mike Baxter (played by Tim Allen), a marketing executive for “Outdoor Man,” a fictitious sporting goods store in Colorado. Mike, is a “man’s man” and involved in all kinds of outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, boating. Likewise, Mike (and Tim) has a love for all the electronics that go with these activities. Among Mike’s interests is Amateur Radio (Ham Radio). Tim's character (Mike Baxter), is KA0XTT. This is a call sign the show cleared for use on air. "XTT" is a bit of a private joke as Tim's character name on "Home Improvement" was Tim Taylor. So, ex T. T. In the show’s radio inventory is currently an ICOM IC-9100 HF radio, an IC-92AD dual band, hand-held, a Heil PR-781microphone, a Daiwa CN-801HP SWR/Power meter a Comet CAA-500 antenna analyzer and a Iambic CW Paddle.
