Hello all
I'm now at that place where I have to start learning the terminology and getting the most from the E92 handset.
Programming is a dark art but I have now manage to register and access my local digital node with 5w and rubber antenna.
I need to know at this point, where the recognised 2m & 70cm frequencies are - obviously I know the repeater inputs/outputs. Are there any designated D Star frequencies? - more importantly, are there any no-go areas? - is it ok to use simplex frequencies using digital voice for example?
Now other users are asking me if I have connected to a reflector yet! - of course this is another new term to me, it has taken me all my time to understand the basics before connecting to gateways and reflectors - of course like anyone, I would like to get the most of the experience, but also would like to have an idea what I am doing.
The E92 manual is most unhelpful - perhaps the definitive plain English one will be written soon!
On the same theme, can anyone point me in the right direction for further reading - preferably with a step-by-step programming guide;-)
I'll keep looking and googling, but it's early days and not sinking in yet.
Oh and finally, is it possible (and if so, how) to connect to GB7YD from my local GB7NE repeater?
Thanks for reading! |

Hi Steve,
D-Star Simplex frequencies are 144.6125 MHz, 438.6125 MHz and 1298.6125MHz.
Put simply if you can connect to GB7NE your settings look something like this
UR CALL: CQCQCQ
RPT1: GB7NE C
RPT2: NOT IN USE
MY CALL: G0SLQ
To call into GB7YD or more aptly link GB7NE to GB7YD settings on the 92 should read like this
UR CALL: GB7YD CL
RPT1: GB7NE C
RPT2: GB7NE G
MY CALL: G0SLQ
The L in the 8th position links the two nodes
Then settings should read like this
UR CALL: CQCQCQ
RPT1: GB7NE C
RPT2: GB7NE G
MY CALL: G0SLQ
(this allows you in on RF and out on the computer via the net)
To unlink the two nodes until you issue this command
UR CALL: U
RPT1: GB7NE C
RPT2: GB7NE G
MY CALL: G0SLQ
Note the 7spaces and U in the eight position. This unlinks GB7NE from (in this case) GB7YD.
Hope this helps some.

Right - thanks again Jeff.
That actually all made sense to me, so it is starting to sink in. - First I've heard of linking and unlinking. My next question is where would I find that information? - I know you know it because it is locked in your grey matter. Is there a secret "how to" website?
As for those simplex frequencies, are they the only ones used? - i.e. can simplex 2m channels be used or is this considered bad practice?
and finally, for now
I hear how people manage to chat and/or hear people overseas or another part of the UK. How do I go about adding a reflector or even just setup the radio for listening further afield please? Assuming that is possible with the E92.
As always any pointers/tips welcome to enable me to get the most out of it.

Hi and No probelm!
Sorry for the delayed reply.
Glad my somewhat none new to D-Star answers, helped some.
Secret how to website? Not that I know of. Lots of info out there on google as you'll have found. Also a good search around the forum may help.
The simplex frequencies....oh my!
I personally wouldn't venture outside those for now.....have you listened to D-Star/GMSK data on analouge
and finally for now.........hehehehe....I like that
Lets take adding a reflector.
You need the e92 software and cable (which I think you have) and the commands (example)
URCALL: REF005AL
RPT1: GB7NE C
RPT2: GB7NE G
MYCALL: G0SLQ
URCALL: 8 characters available - L in 8th position Links to this case REF005A
RPT1: ALWAYS LOCAL PORT IN 8th position
RPT2: node name G in 8th position allows traffic throught the gateway/computer & internet to remote node/reflector
always remember to Unlink when done
URCALL: U (7 spaces - U in 8th)
there are 30 reflectors available at my last count all with ports A, B & C.
Happy programming Steve....
Regards

Hi Steve
welcome to the wonderful world of D-STAR where information is available when it happens.
When time permits we will be reorganising our D-STAR pages to help first time visitors find out quickly about D-STAR and its capabilities.
It will include a short introduction to D-STAR and links to files, documents and further reading.
In the meantime check out our documents section in the shop if you haven't already.
http://www.southyorkshirerepeatergroup.co.uk/shop/11-manuals
There are a few documents here to download for free in the shop to help you get to grips with D-STAR.
Also if you have software and a cable for your radio there are some ICF files to help you get an idea of the programming of your radio.

All the best
