Androids a coming . . .
Currently there are only a handful of apps made for the Android platform, here is one we have found to work and very well indeed. It allows you find IRLP nodes that are within a set range of your location.
The app will display the nearest IRLP nodes on google maps. You can select a radius from your present location (say 5 or 10 miles etc) or plan for trips away by inputting any given location. You can select how many nodes you’d like to display and whether VHF/UHF etc.
It’s as simple as clicking on any node on the map to get connection details. Details including the node’s frequency and tone, and whether it is idle or not.
If you have an Andriod phone give it a try this summer, we are sure you’ll have some fun.
Enjoy the sun.

In our very first iPhone article, Andrew Spaxman investigates how you can listen to D-STAR live on your Apple iPhone or iPod touch.
I love the iPhone. I’ve had one by my side now for a good 18 months. It gives me full control of my business on the move, organises my personal life and it also helps me in my radio hobby too. I really would be lost without it.
Over the next few months, I’m going to show you a few nifty tricks that you can do yourself with your iPhone that involve amateur radio.
Here’s the first trick – listening to D-STAR
Yep that’s right, simply go to the iPhone app store on your phone and search for Ustream.
Once you have found and installed the ustream viewer, launch the application and search for GB7YD. Your search results will find our live stream from the GB7YD D-STAR repeater for you to listen and watch from your apple iPhone.
Unfortunately you cannot talk back yet. SYRG is working on this one
We would like to hear from any iPhone application developers that could develop a D-STAR radio application with us.
Any problems or questions viewing the GB7YD stream on your iPhone, please let (ED!) PLEASE let ANDY know!
More info about the iPhone ustream application can be found at : http://www.ustream.tv/mobile/viewer
Enjoy!
