Friedrichshafen Friday

dsc_0078

Its been a hectic but enjoyable first day at Friedrichshafen……

You come half way across Europe and meet folks from your local town.

Above we see Clare of LAMCO showing me their latest fullpage spread, service with a smile as always.

Joking aside its great to see faces old and new and I am never anything but in awe when I attend this Hamfest.

It really is Europes biggest with something for everyone wherever your spectrum intrest may lie.

The side halls are packed with radio enthusiasts from all over the globe selling and swapping their preloved equipment.

The main hall is rammed with dealers, radio clubs, representatives from nearly every nation. I really am in my element.

All the usual dealers are in full force and there is a new offering unveiled by icom, the ID-31E that should keep the D-Star users saving for a few months.

I had a quick chat with the guys and here is a basic specification:

  • DV/FM
  • IPX7
  • Free cloning software
  • Integral GPS
  • DR mode
  • Micro SD card slot
  • Navigation key interface (similar to GSM phones)
  • 70 cm UHF
  • Slim line form factor

The Hamfest seems to be growing year on year with throngs of people everywhere you go. As always the ham spirit is well and truely alive, when so many like minded people congregate on one place at the same time…

I am signing off now and heading to freshen up, eat, imbibe some of the local brew and do my bit for Anglo – Germanic relations.

Have a great evening and I will be reporting on day two’s events tomorrow.

2010 Dayton D-STAR Friday Afternoon Forum

2010 Dayton D-STAR Friday Afternoon Forum

Courtesty of ARVN and Gary Pearce, KN4AQ

ARVN are currently working on the footage they shot at the 2011 (and 2010) Hamventions now.

Here’s the first program out of the editor – it’s the entire 2010 D-STAR Friday Afternoon Forum.

This will be on a DVD, probably along with the 2011 Forum, and the DVD will have a chaper index that  can’t be done on YouTube.

This is the whole forum – almost 90 minutes worth.

It features:

Robin Cutshaw AA4RC on the DVDongle, DVAP and DPLUS

Dan Smith KK7DS on D-RATS

David Lake G4ULF on building non-ICOM D-STAR repeaters

Visit http://www.arvideonews.com/Dayton/index.html for more from Dayton 2011.

Many thanks to Gary Pearce, KN4AQ and ARVN for this very informative video.
