Tracking Using D-STAR with APRS


Using the HM-175GPS microphone on the IC-E92D or the GPS on IC-E2820H and IC-E2820 you can broadcast your current position via the D-Star repeater network.

Yes that’s right, when you are telling the XYL that you are just popping out to buy a loaf of bread and some milk she can track you live now all the way to your local radio emporium!

Err…maybe that’s not such a good thing, but the GPS functions of these radios and the APRS system have integrated well with D-STAR Gateway Systems.

One good use is for disaster communications as  it provides an excellent way of keeping tabs on where your resources are deployed as realtime GPS positioning can be sent with every transmission.

Dundee Amateur Radio Club Group gets funding for D-STAR

Broughty Ferry RNL Visit 2005

Dundee Amateur Radio Club (DARC) were recently awarded a grant of nearly £3,000 by the National Lottery under the AWARDS FOR ALL SCHEME.

This Grant has been used to purchase the equipment required to provide a D-Star digital UHF radio repeater for radio amateurs from Dundee, Angus and North Fife.

DARC are also grateful to amateur radio equipment supplier Jaycee Electronics in Glenrothes for their contribution of equipment to this project.

This D-Star repeater utilises digital communication along with the internet, allowing radio amateurs to communicate worldwide with other amateurs who are connected to D-STAR repeaters.

The NOV Licence holder is Martin Higgins MMØDUN.
