Planned maintenance

Would all users of GB7YD please note that at some point today we will be off air, to facilitate planned maintenance of the Gateway.

After a PSU failure on Friday the team is today heading to site today to re-install the UHF/70cms module GB7YD Port B. We will announce on Port C when we are shutting the Node down.

For those of you wondering what the picture of the LDF5-50A is doing on this post, its a shot of some of the cable that the group has available. We have 10 rolls available for sale, please keep your eye on the site as the admin plans to integrate the SYRG shop where this cable can be ordered. In the meantime if you can’t wait to get your hands on a roll, for an amazingly bargain price contact G4LUE.

Ernie retire…NEVER

The South Yorkshire Repeater Group would like to extend thier congratulations to Ernest Bailey – G4LUE on his appointment to his new post.

Ernie has taken up the role of Assessor on a Community Project Funding Body based within the South Yorkshire region.

We wish you all the very best in your new role Ernie and know that you will use your life skills to the best advantage for the whole community.

Ham radio and D-Star to get boost from TV sitcom

The ABC Television series, “Last Man Standing” is about Mike Baxter (played by Tim Allen), a marketing executive for “Outdoor Man,” a fictitious sporting goods store in Colorado. Mike, is a “man’s man” and involved in all kinds of outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, boating. Likewise, Mike (and Tim) has a love for all the electronics that go with these activities. Among Mike’s interests is Amateur Radio (Ham Radio). Tim's character (Mike Baxter), is KA0XTT. This is a call sign the show cleared for use on air. "XTT" is a bit of a private joke as Tim's character name on "Home Improvement" was Tim Taylor. So, ex T. T. In the show’s radio inventory is currently an ICOM IC-9100 HF radio, an IC-92AD dual band, hand-held, a Heil PR-781microphone, a Daiwa CN-801HP SWR/Power meter a Comet CAA-500 antenna analyzer and a Iambic CW Paddle.
